Ethically Sourced

Our goal is to honor nature through living adornment. Each piece is handmade by our own two hands from start to finish. From processing our own specimens, to pinning insects. We strive to create beautiful arrangements that honor earths magical creatures, in life and death.

Our bone and taxidermy specimens are collected post mortem. They are not killed for our pieces. Some resources we utilize are bones found on family ranches and properties, road kill specimens (see road kill collection laws here), support rescues that loose animals due to natural death (Unfortunately some animals enter this world still born, leave it from birth complications, diseases, or unknown causes. When this happens these animals are collected and sold to small businesses like ours and education centers), pet donations, salvaged components from other industries that would otherwise be used as waste, breeders and small family farms. Please be also aware of federal laws like the Migratory Bird Treaty Act .

Our insect specimens come from insect farms where they live out their full life cycle. Deceased specimens are collected and then sold to businesses and education centers. These farms help sustain natural forests and jungles, and provide jobs for indigenous communities. We work closely and actively with friends that may offer services that we cannot provide in house and we make sure that their standards align with ours.

We believe in upholding ethical standards in our sourcing and running Novis Mortem. We believe in full transparency, please use the contact form for any additional questions.
